This week’s Top Ten: Ten of my Favourite Books published over ten years ago
This was another tough one for me! How to narrow it down to just ten? Several of these books are ones I read to my kids (my own and the ones at school) that really stand the test of time.
I cheated just a little and included a volume containing 3 E.B. White books. Stuart Little, Charlotte’s Web and The Trumpet of the Swan. All great stories. I am just going to post this before I change it again.
Have you read any of these books? What did you think?

Holes is a fun read! And my oldest daughter loved Hatchett when the teacher read it to the class in 5th grade. I think it helped her develop a love for the outdoors.
Thanks for stopping by my blog last week!

The Hunger Games was on my list this week too. I also had several Jodi Picoult books, though not House Rules as it’s one of the few I haven’t read! I do have it though and would like to get around to it at some point soon. Charlotte’s Web was one of my favourite books as a kid, but I was already going over on my list this week so I didn’t include it.

Great list, Carla! I had Kite Runner on my list and I almost chose House Rules as the Jodi Picoult on my list this week but I went with Nineteen Minutes. She’s such a great storyteller!

Thanks Dini. I agree, she is a great storyteller. I haven’t read Nineteen Minutes yet. I have it up on my bookshelf, but for some reason, haven’t gotten to it yet. I will have to move it up that mountain.

This is an impossible task. You did well, but again–impossible. I have read most of these. I just added House Rules to my list; books about people dealing with autism attract me. There are many kinds and a long continuum and we have so much to learn about it, but for now the important thing is how it impacts the person and their family. (I know I am preaching to the choir!)

I agree, it was a difficult task. I added and took others off, until I finally said, Stop! Just post. 😁 I hope you like House Rules, it is very realistic.

Aww, I read Hatchet with my kids, and they read Holes, but I’ve never read it. The Hunger Games will always hold a special place in my reading heart. ❤

Loved Gone With the Wind, Carla. I read the Very Hungry Caterpillar to both my own children, and Luke. Now he reads it on his own! We also love The Sneetches. ❤📚

The Sneetches is one that doesn’t get much love, but it is such an important and relevant story. Dr. Seuss was brave to write it back then. I don’t think I know any children who haven’t heard The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Such an easy to read story and who doesn’t love sticking their fingers in those holes. 😂

Holes is and always will be a classic. What a fantastic book. I tried reading the Very Hungry Caterpillar (he LOVES butterflies) to Will the other day, but he was more interested in poking the holes than listening. But he’s still very very young for it!

Great selection! I’ve read The Kite Runner, The Hunger Games and The Very Hungry Caterpillar of these… The Shadow Of The Wind would probably be at the top of mine; I must have read that book a dozen times in multiple languages. Also A Monster Calls, The Name Of The Wind, A Thousand Splendid Suns, It’s Kind Of A Funny Story, Neverwhere…
