My Life

Monday Thoughts

I wanted to start by letting everyone know that I am falling behind reading all your wonderful blogs. I was baking last week and then away for the weekend, so I am now trying to catch up with all the blogs I follow as well as comments on my own posts.

This past weekend, I was at a Women’s Retreat with a couple of dozen ladies from my church. We went to a wonderful place called Crieff Hills and Conference Centre about 3.5 hours from my house where we learned about The Sabbath and how to find joy in Sabbath moments whenever we can, especially with how busy many people’s lives are.

Needless to say, I did not have access to check email and blogs. I did refresh my mind, my heart and soul with music, reflection, discussion and scripture.

This week I have some appointments (optometrist today where he dilated my eyes, then froze them) to find out that I am beginning to develop cataracts which is why my eyesight has been blurring somewhat. Tomorrow I am going out of town again with my sister to visit my 94 year old aunt who I try to visit with at least 6 times per year, then off to Grand Bend (a few hours away) on Thursday to see a production of Holiday Inn at the Huron County Playhouse.

Well, that is what I have coming up. I hope you all have a great week ahead and take time for yourself reading, reflecting or just finding joy in the world around you.

My Struggle Update

Hello again,

I promised myself I would update regularly to let everyone know how I am doing, as well as to keep myself accountable. If you did not see my post on August 6th, I am struggling with my weight and due to that, dealing with some health issues. When I went to see my doctor at the end of July, I promised myself that I needed to buckle down and take care of myself. My goal was to be down 30 pounds by the time I went back to see him for my three month checkup at the end of October.

Well, it has been 6 weeks since I began to eat healthy and remain active. I have had a bit of a setback.

I broke my toe and a bone in my foot on Labour Day. I was trying to move a lawn bed out of my way with my foot, as my hands were full, and the chair did not move, OUCH.

Needless to say, my activity level is pretty much down to nothing right now, but I am still eating healthy. I have lost 22.5 pounds in these five weeks. I am not feeling a lot better yet, except mentally because I am sticking to it. I will say that my clothes are fitting better and I am able to wear a few more items. Feeling more positive that I can do this!

Well, that is it for now, but I will post again in October. Hopefully I will be down at least the 30 pounds I was hoping for. Thanks for all the encouragement you have given me.

Happy Wednesday Everyone

So, this is not my WWW post or even a book review, it is me rambling.

I got up at 7:00 this morning and it is now 11:45. I am still in my pyjamas and have finally finished reading all my email and catching up on blog posts. Today will be a lazy day. I got a sunburn yesterday sitting outside and paddling in my pool with a friend, so probably won’t be going in today. I am listening to a youtube compilation of Christian music,, and mellowing out.

For those of you who read about my healthy life changes, I have lost 15.5 pounds in just over two weeks. I have been eating healthy, but have upped my activity from nothing to anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes a day. I am feeling pretty good about my decisions, but today I think I need a break.

My Struggle

I don’t usually post personal stuff on my blog, but I am struggling with my weight and my health. I have figured out that I need to be accountable as well as need encouragement, so I posted about my battle on facebook as well as here on my blog. When I retired, seven years ago, this is what I looked like. I was over 100 pounds overweight, very obese, had diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I was a ticking time bomb.

At that time, I decided that I wanted to get healthy. My son had just gotten married and they were trying to start a family. I wanted not only to enjoy my retirement, but was hoping for grandchildren that I knew I would have to keep up with. I started working out and eating healthy and just over a year, I lost 99 pounds.

I felt wonderful. I had so much energy, my medications were reduced and my husband and I were hiking, riding bikes and being busy without me having to stop and catch my breath all the time.

So here I am today. I know I have dealt with a lot over the last 2 years, but I need to stop making excuses for myself. A week ago, I decided it was time to smarten up. I have been eating healthy for the last week and exercising every day (water jogging, riding recumbent bike, walking, cutting grass) and have started to lose. My goal for the three months until I go back to my doctor is 30 pounds. Sounds like a lot, but when you have 131 pounds to lose, the first 30 should come off pretty quickly. I will update this post once a month, so you will see my journey. I appreciate any and all support I can get.

Late Again

WWW Wednesday will be late again this week.

I will be off to Toronto to see Wicked with my sister on Wednesday and then visiting relatives Thursday. Will be home Thursday night late. Post might go up on Friday morning with all my reviews.

Good-Bye Bigg

Today we said good-bye to Bigg. He was 16 years old and we loved the time we spent with him. Last October he was in a bad way, but after mouth surgery and new medication for his arthritis, he was doing better. During these last 6 months he pretty much went deaf and his eyesight was very limited. Even though he was on medication, he started having a tough time going up stairs in the last three week. He fell a half dozen times or more on the stairs and I was very afraid he was going to fall down the stairs when I wasn’t home and seriously hurt himself. He was starting to bite and the vet said it was probably because he was in so much pain. I couldn’t do that to him any longer so today, the vet came to the house and did a euthanasia in the backyard with my kids, daughter-in-law and grandson all here to say goodbye. It was sad, but I believe it was the right thing to do. Bigg is in doggy heaven playing catch with Ray and swimming in the pond. I love you Bigg and know I will miss you very much.

Cranberry Bliss Bars {Starbucks Copy Cat Recipe}

I do not usually post recipes on this blog, but this has become my go to recipe when I have to take a dessert somewhere. Everyone loves them. In fact, I am making them this morning to take to a dinner tonight where I have been asked to bring dessert.
I got this recipe from Ashlyn at Belle of the Kitchen.

Happy Birthday Ray

Today my husband would have turned 70 years old. This is the second of his birthdays in heaven. I am missing him terribly today, but I know the rest of my family will be here for me. Love you Forever Dear. I hope you are playing hockey in heaven with the Humboldt hockey team.
