Happy Father’s Day to all who are or have been a father or father figure to someone they love. As I said on Mother’s Day, you deserve to be celebrated all year long, but enjoy your day today.

Significance of Father’s Day:

“Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad,” said Wade Boggs. The quote puts a spotlight on all fathers who struggle hard to raise and support their children.

Father’s Day is celebrated to recognise the unique role of fathers or father figures in our lives. From supporting their children financially, mentally, emotionally and physically, the pivotal role of fathers in everyone’s life is priceless.

This day is celebrated to acknowledge and appreciate the role of fathers who play a very important role in our families, and in society at large. Children celebrate Father’s Day to make their fathers feel special and shower them with gifts, cards and at times, special dinners to make their dads feel special with their gestures. Most of them also spend time with their fathers or if they can’t do that, they call them and extend greetings.

The value of a father’s guiding hand is quite often most realized in adulthood.  Comedian Dan Zevin said of his father, “Lately all my friends are worried that they are turning into their fathers.  I’m worried I’m not.”

And to those father’s who are no longer with us, I know I will take time today to remember them.
