Harper Audio has reissued the Virgin River Series in Audiobook. The books are narrated by Thérèse Plummer. She is one narrator that I enjoy very much. She has a pleasant voice to listen to, adding expression and voices to the various characters. I definitely recommend this series, especially in audiobook format, if possible. I also recommend that you read them before you watch the Netflix series if possible, as there are quite a few changes made from the books for the television series.

4 Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the second book in the Virgin River series and it continues the story from the first book. This is the story of Preacher and Paige. Preacher is closing the bar up for the night when a young woman and her three year old son show up to get something to eat and use the restroom. Preacher senses there is a problem and invites them to stay in his old room above the bar. He is now living in Jack’s cabin as he and Mel are now married.

I enjoyed this visit to Virgin River. I have to say that I have watched the series and was expecting things to be a bit different. I enjoyed the way Preacher came out of his shell and took care of Paige and Christopher. As the story of what Paige is running from, the townspeople all get involved to keep her safe. Another great story with wonderful characters and that lovely small town feel. I definitely recommend this one.

4.5 Stars:

I really enjoyed this addition to the Virgin River series. We still have all the regulars; Jack, Mel, Paige, Preacher, Doc but there are also some new ones. We met LAPD officer Mike Valenzuela, in the previous book through Preacher reaching out to him, but in this story, he has been seriously injured on the job and once he is released from the hospital he heads to Virgin River to recuperate. Brie is Jack’s sister and is a Sacramento prosecutor who is viciously assaulted and raped. She is looking for refuge and support and finds it in her brother’s old friend Mike.

This is Brie and Mike’s story, but the other characters still play a very important role in this story. It is very well written as it deals with some very difficult issues, presented very carefully. There is loss, heartbreak, coming of age, rape, drugging unsuspecting victims, tough decisions, babies and of course lots of love. I think I liked this story the most as there was so much more to it than just a romance.
