Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want. Today’s Topic: Top Ten Books You Would Want on a Desert Island
So, I cheated a bit because I selected some that contained more than one story, but there are so many books that I have not read, but have wanted to. On a desert island, I wouldn’t get distracted and would finally get them read.
What do you think of my choices? Would any of them be on your list?

I’d take the complete works of Shakespeare as well! Great list!

The Bible for sure. I LOVED Jane Eyre. I listened to it and it was excellent. I tried to read a Kate Morton book once and could not connect with it after two or three tries and gave up. I just didn’t understand what she was talking about. I must be too dumb for her books. I, too, should read And The Mountains Echoed because The Kite Runner was FANTASTIC!! I think I’m scared his other books won’t measure up. 🤷🏽♀️
Great list, Carla!! 🥰

Never too dumb, but they tend to be very descriptive and sometimes the story doesn’t click until partway in. That is probably why her books are soooo looooong, which is why I haven’t read it yet. I read A Thousand Splendid Suns and it was also really good, very different characters, same setting. I would be lost on a desert island without a bible. Thanks Laurie. 😁

I may give Kate Morton another shot some day.
I haven’t read A Thousand Splendid Sons yet, either. I have both books on my shelf but haven’t read them. Maybe it’s because my daughter read A Thousand Splendid Sons and said it wasn’t as good as The Kite Runner. I think she might have said the same about Mountains Echoed. 🤔
Maybe one day I’ll pull them off the shelf and read them. 🙂

With all the books in the world, we should only read what we enjoy, that is why I don’t read the classics.

I love that you chose so many that really do need the time to digest properly Carla. I keep saying I’d just want my entire Kindle and a solar powered charger.🤣

Great choices! I’ve read A Gentleman in Moscow. It’s a beautiful book! And several of your others are on my TBR, as well. All the Light, And the Mountains Echoed, The Forgotten Garden…I’ve only heard great things about those. 🙂

Thanks Dedra. Yes, I have read wonderful reviews of them all, but for some reason, have not read them. I am not on a desert island, but I am going to try to get to a couple this summer.

I like how you mostly went for books you haven’t tried yet instead of those you know you love and could reread! Is it because rereading isn’t something that you enjoy too much? 😀

That is pretty much it, Lashaan. I don’t reread except books to my grandkids (because you can’t say no to a 3 year old who wants you to read the shape book for the 100th time). There are so many books I want to read, that I shy away from rereading.

Love your list here, Carla. I agree with the longer titles, especially the Bible. I think I’d like The Count of Monte Cristo with me too. Great list! 🧡

That is a tough question, my study bible print is so small, I don’t use it as often as I like, so I have one less to choose from. 😀

I think most of the books that you are taking with you that you haven’t yet read are also on my TBR. I haven’t yet read the Kate Morton, and I have A Gentleman from Moscow on my shelf waiting to be read.
The first book I would pack would be The Complete Tales and Poems of Winnie-the-pooh by A.A. Milne, then Ken Bruen’s Jack Taylor series, and after that I’m not really sure. 🤷♀️❤📚

Yes, Winnie-the-pooh, what a great choice. I have only read a few of them, so that would be a great choice. There are so many great books on my TBR, but these are some I really want to read, but always seem to think, later. I would have nothing else to do, so what a great chance to get to them. 📚💖🏝

This is quite the list Carla. I have leather bound collector’s editions of both Shakespeare and Poe, as well as Sherlock Holmes and Jane Austen. There’s a new edition of the Bronte sisters works that’s coming out this Fall that I already have on my wish list.

I don’t know how long I will be shipwrecked, so I didn’t want to run out of things to read. As well, with my ADD, I give up too easily on longer tomes, but will not have other stuff to do, so might actually read some of the things on my TBR. 😁📚 That new Bronte book sounds wonderful for fans of the sisters.

I have enjoyed all of Kate Morton’s books and could easily re-read all of them but THE CLOCKMAKER’S DAUGHTER (the only one I didn’t love). I’m with you on the Bible as well. I would definitely want some scripture to comfort me and give me hope as I waited for rescue!
Happy TTT!
