This week’s topic is: Ten Amazing Books Published Before I Was Born
So, I do not reread books or read a lot of classics, but I love children’s books. I decided to use 5 picture books and 5 MG books that were published before I was born, so, here goes.

These were some of my favourites from childhood. I have read all of the picture books to my grandkids. I wish I still had the copies I owned as a child, but alas, they are no longer in my possession.

Great list. I’ve read and loved every single one of these, but especially The Velveteen Rabbit (though I could not read this aloud to kids because half the time it makes me cry). I was actually given a copy in the 80s that came with a plush rabbit to match the one in the book — not a very cuddly toy, so it went on display, but darned if it wasn’t so cute that that stiff little brown rabbit is still perched on my dresser to this day.
My other favorite on this list is definitely The Story of Ferdinand, which I haven’t seen a lot of people mention, so I’m glad you did. I went with older children’s books this week too — mostly from the 40s.

Oh, you’ve managed to include so many books that I’ve loved over the years. Especially Goodnight Moon! Does it get any better than that?

Thanks Christopher. Goodnight Moon will be around for generations to come, I am sure. My grandkids loved it and used to ask for it all the time. Not as much now, but it is still up there.

CARLA,
I don’t know when you will get this, but send your snail mail address to raelongest300.msn.com and I’ll mail you my copy of Frontera Street. I KNOW you’ll enjoy it, and you can add it to your TBR pile. (You said you couldn’t get it at your library.

Lots and lots of favourites from childhood. Most of them seem to involve Enid Blyton 😊

Enid Blyton was not as big in Canada as the UK and other parts of the Commonwealth. Too much American influence here.

Lol. Ah well, at least there were some goodies there too. I only wish the next generation could enjoy it as much as we did. It was my parents who encouraged me to read her books.

What a fun list! How I loved Beverly Cleary books when I was a kid! And Pippi Longstocking! I didn’t realize it was published in the 40s. I also loved Harriet the Spy which was published before I was born

I read the full series from both Pippi Longstocking and Beverly Cleary. I had no idea that Pippi was published that long ago. Harriet the Spy was after I was born, but my daughter loved Harriet.
