A Bread Shop Mystery: The Walking Bread, Flour in the Attic, Dough of Die Mini-Reviews #BookReview @MBourbonWArcher

A couple of years ago I read the first two books in “A Bread Shop Mystery” series, I realized that several more had been published. I took time the last few weeks to pick up the next three to read between my thrillers and non-fiction books. The series is penned by Winnie Archer, a pen name for Melissa Bourbon. Each book features some type of bread and how it is made and a recipe is included at the end. If you enjoy cozy mysteries with an eclectic and sometimes eccentric characters, then you will enjoy these books and your visits to the bakery, Yeast of Eden.

A Simple Murder: A Kate Burkholder Short Story Collection

A Simple Murder: A Kate Burkholder Short Story Collection by Linda Castillo, Kathleen McInerney (Narrator)

Published February 9th 2021 by Macmillan Audio

A Simple Murder is an anthology made up of several of Linda Castillo’s short stories/novellas in the Kate Burkholder series. It contains 6 of these short stories, but only three that I had not read or listened to. I have included my reviews of those three. I have listened to other books in this series narrated by Kathleen McInerney, and once again, she does a wonderful job with her narration of this audiobook. She is the voice of Kate Burkholder to me.

Garden Squad Mystery Series: Digging Up the Remains, Wreathing Havoc #BookReview #Audiobook

The month of September was “Can You Read a Series in a Month” and I tackled A Garden Squad Mystery series. I read or listened to all four of them, the last just published on September 28th. It is a fun series about a group of friends who beautify their town, volunteer at festivals and activities and just happen to solve mysteries as well. Here are the last two in the series and my reviews.

Some Cozy Mysteries to check out: Read or Alive, Deadly Vows, Deadly Ride #BookReview #Audiobook #CozyMystery

August was cozy mystery here at Carla Loves to Read and I spent some time catching up on some series that I had fallen behind on. I will say that although I enjoyed these books, they were not as exciting as I had hoped. They had good mysteries, but I missed the quirkiness I normally enjoy in a cozy mystery. I listened to all of these books using Hoopla through my local library.

Over the last few weeks, I have read a variety of crime thrillers. They are different from one another, but all suspenseful, twisty and thoroughly entertaining. I recommend them all.

Poppy McAllister Mysteries: Wine Tastings Are Murder, Beauty Expos are Murder #AudiobookReview @LibbyKleinBooks @TantorAudio

Recently, I have worked my way through this series, finishing up with books #5 and #6. I find this an enjoyable cozy mystery series with great characters and a lot of humour. I listened to several of them on audio, but also enjoyed reading a few of them and recommend either method to enjoy them. Callie Beaulieu narrates this series and I enjoy her pleasant voice. She does not do voices as she reads these stories, but her voice is great to listen to, her inflection and expression is right on. I always enjoy listening to audiobooks narrated by this wonderful voice actress.
