Welcome to Itโs Monday! What are you Reading? Itโs hosted by Kathryn from Book Date, this is a weekly event to share what weโve read in the past week and what we hope to read, plus whatever else comes to mind.
It was another busy week, but I was still able to read and listen to several books. I am in Toronto right now with my daughter-in-law. We came up last night, as she is having minor surgery today and I am staying at the hotel. She should be discharged tomorrow and we will head back home on Wednesday. This past week, I had lunch with my sister, her hubby and another couple, then picked up a different sister and went to Toronto to see Les Misรฉrables. We stayed overnight on Tuesday and went to the wonderful, amazing performance on Wednesday afternoon, then a five hour drive home. Thursday found me having coffee with a group of 6 wonderful ladies that I worked with. I was planning on opening my pool when I got back from my European Vacation at the end of June, but was informed that there is a bylaw in our town that says pools must be open and clean by June 15th or they must be drained. So, I spent several hours opening my pool. Fortunately I have friends who will cut my grass, water the sod and take care of the pool while I am away. Besides that, I had a few appointments and errands to run.
So, what did I read or listen to last week? I was able to read or listen to 14 books/audiobooks. 7 were on my TBR that I set for the week, so half of my books were mood reading. I finally got to my physical shelves and read 2 of those, and listened to a few audiobooks that were on my Netgalley shelf, as well as from the library.ย I read 2 books for upcoming blog tours and those posts are scheduled for the next couple of weeks. I had planned on keeping up with reviews this week, but have only reviewed 13 of these books. With 5 left from the previous weeks to review, I am 6 books behind for 2024, which is way too many for my comfort.๐คฆโโ๏ธ I seem to be getting further behind each week. I’m working hard to catch up before I leave for my vacation at the end of this month. Clicking on the cover will take you to my review, if I have posted it.

What Will I Read Next? Maybe…..
I have 2 books I want to read for blog tours that I must have scheduled before I go on vacation. After that, I would like to read or listen to some books on my Netgalley or Edelweiss shelf, 1 for my top ten lists, and a couple of books/audiobooks from the library. I still have a lot more middle grade/children’s fiction novels on my Netgalley backlist, so I want to read a couple of them, but haven’t done a good job getting to them. I know I will not read all of these over the next week, but these are the books I hope to choose from.ย

An ambitious TBR this week, but I’ve been reading/listening to 12 to 14 books for the last few weeks, so I might get to most of them unless I go off and mood read ๐. I have been listening to a lot of audiobooks while doing things around the house and yard. What did you read this week? What are your upcoming reading plans?

It sounds like you had a great week. I hope your daughter-in-law’s surgery goes well. I’m seeing red over your town’s overreach with the swimming pool. Your property, your pool, and presumably your life. Government needs to get out of people’s personal business. To be fair, I’m sure you live in a nice town. My comments are directed at governments everywhere.

Thanks, Linda. I pick her up shortly and hope she is going well. She was really tired last night, so I didn’t see her, just talked to her. All the towns and cities in our area have a swimming pool guideline, which I never bothered about as I always opened my pool on the May 24th weekend or the first weekend in June. It has to do with mosquitoes. We are the mosquito capital of the area and have has a lot of cases of West Nile disease. I still get frustrated as there was no standing water on my cover, but it is what it is.

That helps a little to know there is at least a small bit of thought behind it, but governments are just unable to be flexible. In your case it makes such good sense (perhaps better sense) to set up and open your pool after you return. I’m glad you have friends and family who can help out!

It sounds like we have both had a very social week!
I am 30 books behind for 2024, Carla, so relax.
I would love the Sheila Roberts. She is another author who doesn’t seem to be available to me via NG any more. Rotten territorial rights!
I hope you daughter-in-law makes a good recovery. Have a safe trip home and happy reading. ๐๐๐

Okay, I will try to relax. I am lucky as almost all of Sheila Roberts books appear on Hoopla in audiobook format almost on the day of publication. I pick her up in a few hours. When I talked to her last night she was tired and in some pain. They only give tylenol for pain now because of the opioid crisis over here. I’m glad to hear that you also had a very social week. I have to check the weekend blogs, but have another blog tour to post and I need to finish the book first. Never enough time. ๐๐๐

I liked Sisters Under the Rising Sun. I have read a couple of others dealing with that setting and subject and this is one of the best ones. I really like Heather Morris’ writing style and the research she puts in. I have End of Story on my TBR and have heard good things about it.

It sounds like life is very busy for you right now Carla! I really want to read the Sheila Roberts book but my library hasnโt purchased it any formats of this book yet. Luckily I have an audible credit to use as a backup. Have a great week!

I don’t have time to get bored, that’s for sure, Jodie. I found the Sheila Roberts audiobook on Hoopla, so was quite happy. Not sure if I will get to it or not with the trip coming up though.
