5 Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was a very interesting and enjoyable poetry anthology. Several of the contributing authors are also bloggers I have followed, so that also made reading this even more enjoyable. The theme was passion, and I loved how the theme was adapted, described and inspired the various poems. Some are about human love for one another, nature, animals, hobbies and even magical characters and places. I head south in winter because I dislike the gray dismal feeling of the season, but interestingly, I really enjoyed the poem by Colleen Chesebro entitled Gray – Winter’s Passion. It gave me a quiet, isolated feeling that is exactly what I am looking for at times. I’m not going to list all my favourites, because there are just too many. Another thing that I loved is the variety of styles used. I enjoyed the long, the short, the rhyming, the syllables and the prose throughout the book. As a student, I disliked poetry because my teachers always asked, “what do you think the poet is trying to say?” and then they would tell me I was wrong because it didn’t match their interpretation. I think I enjoy poetry so much more as an adult, because I can interpret it how I want, how it makes me feel and think and that is what I did as I read through this anthology over the last week or so. Passion: it means so much, everyone feels it differently, no one feels it the same. A wonderful anthology that I recommend to poetry lovers and those who want to give poetry a try.

Grandfather Tree Speaks – Excerpt
By Patty L. Fletcher 2018 – 2022

Hello, everyone. Thank you for reading my poetry.

When I was asked, “what inspired this poem?” There was no hesitation in my answer. Between the years of 2010 and 2018, I lived in a rental house on a corner lot and in the front yard was a big Bradford Pair tree. I sat underneath this big tree one day, to rest in its shade, and once I’d settled down to relax, the tree spoke to me. “Hello, my name is Grandmother Tree. I’m old but happy to give shelter from the sun, and a place for you to walk your big, beautiful dog. His nose tickles when he sniffs my trunk.”

Later, when I moved, I wished there was a way to take Grandmother Tree with me. I missed her so, and one day I saw a photo writing prompt and Grandmother tree came to me. I thought, “What would happen if I were to come upon another tree who could speak to me? What if it were a Grandfather Tree?”

With that, Grandfather Tree Speaks was born.

As I walk beside the lake, my time I do take.
I meditate, and share, my happy thoughts by use of the crisp, cold, magical winter air.
Then my rest, I take beneath this loving old tree, who, without complaint shelters me.

The second author I am highlighting is Willow Willers. I am not familiar with Willow but will definitely be checking out her blog at willowdot21. She participates in writing and photography challenges and shares some of her work in writing and in soundclips.

About Willow Willers: Willow Willers, lives in southern England with her husband and their beloved, retired, guide dog Ruby. Willow is the mother of three boys, all now grown and flown to live their own lives. Luckily, they do keep in touch and visit often. There is now a daughter in law and two beautiful grandsons. Willow started writing when she was very young but a serious accident twenty odd years ago made her re-evaluate her life. Learning to walk again does that and she started writing again. Writing poetry and prose has helped Willow a great deal. In fact, she thinks it has saved her life.

About Academic Passion
I have always been enthralled by the link between Music and Math. You would think they were worlds apart but not so. I love music but I have no musical or mathematical talents . Yet all three of my sons are mathematically minded and all three love music, in fact, two have been musically inclined enough to make music. The oldest and youngest lads are in I.T. but both have made music for pleasure and one was in several groups and was set for a career in music production before he took his brother’s advice and moved into I.T. He even  married an opera singer! So Passion for numbers and music resonates with me and that is where this poem comes from. Love, music, math and passion .

Academic Passion
Figures were his life
Music moved her soul
Numbers and music make a whole
Their eyes met in the library
They made sweet noises in the refectory
They soon forgot their books as passion took a hold
