Trade Paperback – 304 pages
ABOUT THE BOOK: Book 2 in the Providence Falls Trilogy. Outlander meets The Lake House (movie) in this epic love story that crosses continents and centuries. Master storyteller Jude Deveraux joins forces with up and coming author Tara Sheets to create a series that will appeal to women’s fiction and romance readers alike. A rogue thief in 1840s Ireland is sent by angels to a contemporary small town in America to make amends for his crimes in the past. Forbidden to tell anyone why he is there he must convince the woman he loves to marry another man or be damned for eternity.
In one century she loved him madly, and in another she wants nothing to do with him
In this second book of a trilogy, the story of Liam O’Connor and Cora McLeod continues. While they were lovers in the past, things are very different in the present. Liam and Cora are both police officers and roomates in Providence Falls, North Carolina. Liam is trying to do as the angels have commanded–make sure Cora falls in love with another man—but Cora is not the impressionable innocent girl Liam remembers. She’s strong and smart and not easily manipulated. Liam is forced to face the truth about himself as he comes to realize that he truly isn’t the right man for Cora. But, as Liam is coming to that conclusion, Cora is starting to see him in a new light.
Liam wants Cora for himself, but with his soul hanging in the balance, he must choose between a stolen moment in time or an eternity of damnation.
An Impossible Promise is romantic, fun and pure escape.
In An Impossible Promise we once again meet up with Liam, Cora and Finn. I the first book we learn that the angels have ordered Liam to bring Cora and Finn together in order to save his soul. You see, in 1844 Ireland, Liam stole Cora away from Finn and changed destiny. Now, over a century later, he is tasked with bringing them back together. Cora and Liam are police officers and partners in Providence Falls, North Carolina. They are working on a murder investigation and it just seems to bring them closer together. Finn is a lawyer, and as he and Cora are thrown together a few times, she also begins to feel something for this kind, caring and generous man. Cora needs to choose Finn, but what about her developing feelings for Liam.
This story begins shortly after Chance of a Lifetime ends. The premise of this series is reincarnation and that we are fated to be with someone. I just suspended my belief and went with the story. I really like Liam, Cora and Finn, which makes it hard to decide who is best for Cora. It is a bit of a love triangle, but not one I have ever seen before. Cora is a great character. She is strong, stubborn and independent and does not want to be told what to do. I really liked this Cora as opposed to the one in the past. There is a bit of a dual timeline and we get flashbacks to their first meeting in 1844, were we learn what happened to them, but most of the story takes place in the present. There is a crime, some mystery, a few twists and some suspense all well plotted with the pending romance. There is also humor as Liam does not understand the present as he seems to have come straight from the past, so he has problems understanding things like technology, going to the gym and fast food. If you believe in destiny or fated love, you will really enjoy this series. I enjoy the strong, well-developed characters. Once again, this story is not over, but I did like this ending more than the one in the first book. I now have to wait, probably close to a year to see who Cora chooses and if Liam will be able to finish his task and save his soul. I did a read/listen with this book and really enjoyed both, but the audio was well done. Susan Bennett is a narrator that I am very familiar with. I have never been disappointed with her performance. She does a great job with both male and female voices as well as accents. Her pacing and expression are perfect and I will not hesitate to listen to books she narrates in the future. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.
