Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want. Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to The Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
Now, I would probably never throw a book in the ocean, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend any of these either. Funny thing is, most of them were freebies. Ten BOOKS I’D GLADLY THROW INTO THE OCEAN. I went to Goodreads and searched by my rating. Here are the first ten books (excluding children’s books) beginning with the lowest rating. A couple of these were DNF for me due to vulgarity or explicit scenes, which other people my not mind. I have connected the books to my reviews if you are interested to see why I rated them so low.
There you have it. Ten Books I Would Gladly Throw Into the Ocean, aka, Books I have rated the lowest on my Goodreads read list.
Have you read any of these books? What books would be on your list?

This is a fascinating list! These days, I very quickly abandon a book if it isn’t doing it for me. And that might well be that I’m in the wrong frame of mind. I have such a lot of books stacked up on my TBR list, Life is genuinely too short to waste on something I’m merely trudging through.
Like you, I tend not to enjoy lots of crude language or overly explicit sex scenes. And I certainly don’t like gratuitous violence, either:).

I am doing better at giving up on a books that do not interest me or offend me. I guess as I get older, I realize time is too important to waste on things I don’t enjoy.

I’ve only read Chloe Brown, and while I did enjoy it, I did struggle with one particular steamy scene. I typically skim through those if they’re too much for me. I don’t have a problem with them being included, but sometimes less is more works better. 😉

I know a lot of people loved it, it just didn’t work for me at all. Book opinions are so subjective.

Get A Life, Chloe Brown would be on mine too! I was really enjoying the story up until the cringeworthy steamy scenes made me DNF it.

I think I remember reading your review or comment on my review about that. Sometimes I think things get added just for the shock value.

True that! It was written in such a vulgar way too… I can tolerate some steam if they are written well, but in this case it was just nauseating.

I haven’t read any of these and I’m very grateful for that. LOL A few of the books that I would gladly throw into the ocean? “Catherine House” by Elisabeth Thomas, “Ruthless” by John Rector, “The Devil You Know” by Elisabeth de Mariaffi, “Family Inheritance” by Terri Ann Leidich, “Bradstreet Gate” by Robin Kirman, “The Postbox Murders” by Edmund Glasby, “The Euthanist” by Alex Dolan and “The Perfect Ghost” by Linda Barnes.

I haven’t read any of those Lynne, but I think I might have Family Inheritance on my kindle. It was also a freebie from the author, if I am not mistaken.

I guess there’s a reason some books are freebies, huh? At least you didn’t waste your money on them. It’s such a disappointment when you buy a book that doesn’t suit you for whatever reason. Ugh.
I haven’t read any of these, but MY 90’S ROMANCE is one I’ve been planning to read as I have enjoyed the books I’ve read by Colgan. I had not realized it was an old manuscript, though, but you’re right – that probably explains why it wasn’t as well written as her newer books. Good to know.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

I totally agree, Susan. I have stopped downloading many of the freebies I am offered as very few have measured up. I really enjoyed many of Jenny Colgan’s books, but yes, this was obviously one of her earliest attempts and does not measure up to the ones she has written lately.

Thanks for sharing this list. It’s good to hear which books don’t work for people as much as which books do. Nothing worse than wasted money on bad books.

I agree Deb, but I always tell people it is only my opinion and someone else might really enjoy it.

I wasn’t a Chloe Brown fan, but not for the same reason you were. I think the problem with having so many illustrated romance covers is that they lead people to think they’re women’s fiction or closed door romances.

I had high hopes for it based on the cover and the synopsis, just not my thing.

If it hadn’t been easy to sort on Goodreads, I wouldn’t have done it. I totally agree, it is very subjective.

The only one I’ve read is Zoo, and I absolutely agree with its inclusion. I’ve found Patterson’s writing has really gone downhill in the last several years, and I even stopped reading his Alex Cross series. I feel badly because I know he’s a wonderful philanthropist, supports other authors, and promotes reading for kids. I think in terms of his writing it’s a case of too many books with too many co-authors. #1 on my list would be Fifty Shades of Gray. Actually, I’d burn it and then throw it into the ocean!

Yes, I agree there. I read the first one, but didn’t review it so it didn’t show up on my list. You are right, James Patterson does a lot of good, but I stopped reading a lot of his books as well. I only read them if my friend gives it to me and wants to talk about it.

I actually read 50 Shades twice: the first time for my library’s blog when it was first published, and the second time on my blog in February 2015 when the movie came out.

I had such high hopes for that one, but the language and crude discussions just turned me right off. I don’t care for it unless it is integral to the storyline. You may love it.

I love getting freebies, but I’ve also had issues with some of them not being good at all. (Others were great, of course! 🙂 )
