4.5 Stars:

This was such a fun story. It certainly had some serious themes to it, but was written in such a fun and humorous way that once I started it, I listened to it whenever I had a chance. Gavin Scott plays baseball for the Nashville Legends. With all the traveling, practices, and other commitments, it seems he and his wife, Thea, have been drifting apart. It is when he realizes that she has been faking satisfaction when making love, he loses it and stomps out of the room. Thea, frustrated and sad that he reacts this way instead of trying to figure out why this is happening as well as knowing that they are just drifting along in their relationship, asks for a divorce. He is devastated and is invited into “The Book Club” made up of various athletes and local men. Using romance novels to figure out the female perspective and how to woo them is hilarious.

I liked Gavin, a lot. He seemed to be a good guy who just didn’t know how to react with women. Being a sports star, he never had to pursue or court a woman and he really had no idea. He really tried and at times, I was frustrated with Thea’s reaction, but she has lived with him for several years and had children, so has a lot to get over and forget. I was definitely rooting for this couple to get their second chance or to fall in love again. The other men in the book club were varied and with more books already in the series, I hope to learn some of their stories. The Russian hockey player certainly added some comic relief with his issues. This was a well-written, well-paced and entertaining read. The characters were well-developed and very likable. I definitely recommend this one for al you rom-com lovers out there, you won’t be disappointed. There are some steamy scenes, so be prepared for some heat.
