3.5 Stars:

Always a Bridesmaid by Cindi Madsen is the second book in the Getting Hitched in Dixie series. This story introduces us to Violet Abrams, a young lady who is recovering from a bad breakup. She heads home to Uncertainty, Alabama to mend her heart and help redesign her sister’s bakery. She was not expecting to almost burn down that bakery on her first day home. She meets firefighter, Ford Maguire, a man who is totally marriage averse. Violet ends up assisting her sister’s friend plan her wedding where Ford just happens to be the “Man of Honor”. They keep getting thrown together and the two wedding wary characters slowly develop a relationship with one another.

This was a fun story with some giggles and laugh out loud moments. I really liked Violet, she has things in her past that could cause problems in Uncertainty, but she faced them head on. She was also a good friend and sister, who was quite creative. Ford has a reputation because of his family. His father and siblings have had multiple relationships and not very good jobs and everyone just assumes Ford is no good, even though he has a great job, saves lives and puts the community before his own needs. This is a small town romance, with nosy neighbors and busybodies galore. There are dogs being trained for rescue animals and puppies that were so sweet. There was even a porcupine at one point. Lots of yummy sounding goodies from the bakery, a local festival and great friends. All in all, a good summer story to read by a pool or out in the backyard. There are a couple of well-described sexual encounters, but besides that, it is a pretty tame and enjoyable story.

I did a read/listen with this one, probably more read than listen. The narrator Tiffany Morgan has a very sweet voice, sometimes too sweet. There were times where I switched to reading as I needed a break from the too sweet voices. I have listened to many books she has narrated, and I think I needed a change. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

About the Book (From Goodreads): Violet Abrams has always been in love with everything love and weddings. Good thing, too, since she’s been a bridesmaid no less than seven times. Sure her turn was next, she’d been planning her own nuptials meticulously in a treasured three-ring binder…until her longtime boyfriend left her for someone else.

Fast-forward to the day of his wedding, an ill-advised match being lit to said binder, and the fire department getting called to her sister’s bakery. Violet’s always been a little impulsive and a lot awkward, but having to explain to the super-cute firefighter, Ford Maguire, why she was setting fire to a bunch of wedding dress photos? Worst day ever.

Except now her bridesmaid expertise has her helping Ford cover his “man of honor” duties in his best friend’s upcoming wedding. Ford may be a “bridesdude,” but forever is the last thing on his mind. And if there’s one thing a perpetual bridesmaid knows, it’s the importance of a happily ever after.
