Run Away by Harlan Coben

A perfect family is shattered in RUN AWAY, the new thriller from the master of domestic suspense, Harlan Coben.

You’ve lost your daughter. She’s addicted to drugs and to an abusive boyfriend. And she’s made it clear that she doesn’t want to be found.
Then, by chance, you see her playing guitar in Central Park. But she’s not the girl you remember. This woman is living on the edge, frightened, and clearly in trouble. You don’t stop to think. You approach her, beg her to come home.

She runs. And you do the only thing a parent can do: you follow her into a dark and dangerous world you never knew existed. Before you know it, both your family and your life are on the line. And in order to protect your daughter from the evils of that world, you must face them head on.

4 Stars:

Simon Green is a successful financial manager, Ingrid, his wife is a successful doctor. They have three children and were a happy family until Paige, their oldest becomes a drug addict. Something happened when she went off to college and when she runs away, Simon doesn’t give up looking for her. When he finds her in Central Park, he has an altercation with her dealer, boyfriend, that changes his life and that of his family in unexpected ways.

Harlan Coben is one of those authors that are on my always read list. This was not the best of his books, but I still enjoyed it a lot. There are two storylines happening in the book and as I read, I was trying to figure out how they would come together. They came together with a resounding crash. This is a book that I read in a couple of days and was impatient to find out what was going to happen to Simon, Ingrid and Paige. There were several shady and corrupt characters along the way, yet some heroes as well. I loved the character of Cornelius. He was a war hero, who had tried to keep an eye on Paige while she lived in the Bronx with Aaron and was in the right place at the right time to help Simon and Ingrid. In the last third of the book, things take off. There is some violence (some not necessary in my mind) and some twists that lead me to a satisfying yet surprising conclusion. The reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 was because of some of the unbelievable twists and violence. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed this story, but not as much as some of his others. If you are a Coben fan, you need to read this one, as well those who love thrillers with action will also enjoy this story.
