Throwback Thursday meme is hosted by Renee@It’s Book Talk and is a way to share some of your old favorites as well as sharing books that you’re FINALLY getting around to reading that were published over a year ago. You know, the ones waiting patiently on your TBR list while you continue to pile more titles on top of them! These older books are usually much easier than new releases to get a hold of at libraries and elsewhere. If you have your own Throwback Thursday recommendation feel free to jump on board.
This week I’m picking a book I read about 15 years ago, so long ago that I did not write a review back then. The one I am including here is very short and sweet for that reason. There are several books in this series, but you do not need to read them all to enjoy them.
Shem Creek (Lowcountry Tales #4)
Linda Brelend wants a fresh start after her divorce. She takes her daughters and leaves New Jersey to head home to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Her younger daughter is causing her a lot of grief and she is hoping this move will help her get her act together. She gets a job working in a local restaurant that she loves. She is well liked by everyone, including the owner. There are some bumps along the way and there are some laughs and some angst, but it is a great second chance story. It is about love, friendship, family and who can resist the wonderful setting.
I do enjoy reading books by Dorothea Benton Frank, especially when I am in Florida sitting around the pool. I gave this one four stars. Click on the cover and it will take you to the Goodreads entry.

I haven’t read this author, but I do like second chance stories. Nice review.

Thanks Linda. She has a lot of books out, I don’t think I will ever catch up on all of them.

I love her, and I loved this book, Carla! Terrific review, even if short and sweet. Her earlier books, and the Lowcountry series especially, are my favorites. I was living in South Carolina at the time she first started writing them- so good!

Thanks Susan. I hear you. I have not read nearly as many as I would have liked.
